Exceptional untouched IWC Ingenieur 666 – Black Gilt Dial - Original Gay Frères Bracelet

This IWC Ingenieur reference 666 is an outstanding and highly original example of the early Ingenieur line, dating from the late 1950s to early 1960s and powered by the automatic calibre 8531.

The watch features a deep black gilt dial with beautifully preserved printing, original luminous plots, and warm, even patina on the hands and hour markers. The dial is fully original and untouched, exactly as serious collectors expect.

According to documented IWC archive material, 1959 marked a transition period during which both calibre 852 and the improved 853/8531 were delivered concurrently. The technical differences between these movements were minor, and IWC is known to have upgraded earlier movements during routine servicing. As a result, early Ingenieur models fitted with calibre 8531 combine technical refinement with the original, uncompromised design.

The stainless steel case is in exceptional condition, retaining strong proportions and a very attractive overall presence on the wrist.

Of particular note is the original IWC plexiglass crystal with integrated date magnifier (cyclops) — a rare, period-correct option that was only offered for a limited time and is seldom found today.

The watch is fitted with its original Gay Frères stainless steel bracelet, correct for this reference and a significant plus in terms of collectability and originality.
