Rolex 2764 Oyster Perpertual Bubbleback with super rare salmon dial
Rolex Oyster Perpetual “Bubble Back” Ref. 2764 – Salmon Dial, 1939
A beautiful and particularly rare example of the early Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubble Back, reference 2764, dating from 1939.
This reference belongs to the second generation of Bubble Back cases, characterised by its fixed smooth bezel and monobloc-style case construction. The untouched stainless-steel case has been remarkably well preserved, retaining its original lines, proportions and character.
The real highlight, however, is the exceptional salmon-pink dial. Dials in this warm copper-salmon tone are extremely rare on early Bubble Backs, and the elegant Art Deco-style hour markers give the watch a particularly distinctive appearance. Combined with the small seconds and early Oyster Perpetual signature, it is a wonderful example of Rolex design from the late 1930s.
The watch is fitted with a slightly later Montal stainless-steel bracelet, most likely dating from the 1940s. Montal was a British manufacturer of high-quality watch bracelets and fittings during this period. While not a Gay Frères bracelet, it is a beautifully made period-correct bracelet and suits the character of the watch exceptionally well.
Overall, the watch is in very good and highly original condition. The case remains untouched, the rare salmon dial is beautifully preserved, and the movement is running perfectly.
A very charming and unusual early Oyster Perpetual, and above all a Bubble Back with one of the most attractive and difficult-to-find dial configurations.
