Rolex Explorer 1016 MK1 “Frog Foot” – Early Matte Dial
This is a beautiful example of the rare MK1 matte dial 1016, also known as the “Frog Foot” due to the unique shape of the coronet — a true first-series matte Explorer.
The overall condition of the watch is excellent. It was likely polished in the past, but the case remains very thick with strong lugs.
The dial is in absolutely perfect condition. Any unevenness visible in the photos is only caused by small dust particles or reflections from the crystal — the surface itself is flawless. The original tritium lume has developed a stunning creamy yellow patina, evenly aged and highly attractive.
It also retains its original long hands, which perfectly match the tritium lume on the dial — both in color and texture. Most examples have had their hands replaced during service with shorter versions, where the minute hand tip no longer reaches the minute track — this one still does.
The watch is currently fitted with a Jubilee bracelet, but it also comes with its original Oyster 7836 bracelet. Please note that the Oyster shows significant stretch from wear.
The movement runs perfectly and was serviced in 2023.
