Rolex Explorer 5504 – Tropical Gilt Dia

Extremely rare and beautiful Rolex Explorer ref. 5504 from 1958, featuring a stunning dark chocolate tropical gilt dial.

The 5504 Explorer was produced only in 1958. If a serial number is later than that, the watch was born as an Air-King — not an Explorer. That makes the 5504 something of a forgotten Explorer, but in my opinion, one of the most beautiful.

It features the early-style gilt minute track, bold radium numerals, and the iconic large lollipop seconds hand, just like the legendary ref. 6150. The dial has aged into a gorgeous tropical tone, giving it unmatched character.

With a 36mm case, it has the perfect vintage proportions. Rarer than a 6610 or gilt 1016 — this is a real connoisseur’s piece.
