Vacheron Constantin Ref. 4066 – Exceptional Guilloché Dial, Spillmann Case, circa 1952
A beautiful and exceptionally elegant Vacheron Constantin reference 4066, dating from the early 1950s and crafted in 18k yellow gold.
The case was made by Spillmann SA, one of the most respected Swiss case makers of the period. Measuring approximately 34 × 42 mm, the watch has beautifully balanced proportions and an elegant yet surprisingly strong presence on the wrist.
The absolute highlight is its original guilloché dial. Executed using the traditional engine-turning technique, the intricate geometric pattern gives the dial remarkable depth and texture, changing character beautifully as the light moves across its surface. This type of traditional guilloché work is an old and highly skilled decorative technique and is exceptionally well executed on this example.
The dial is completed by applied yellow-gold hour markers, Arabic numerals at 3, 9 and 12, and a subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock, creating a wonderfully balanced and unmistakably mid-century design.
Inside is the hand-wound Vacheron Constantin calibre P453/3B, a beautifully finished in-house movement from this period. The watch has recently been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is running perfectly.
Preserved in very attractive and original condition, this is a particularly charming and difficult-to-find configuration of reference 4066 and a wonderful example of Vacheron Constantin’s craftsmanship from the early 1950s.
