About this watch
A classic no-date Submariner with the unmistakable character of a vintage matte dial. Dating to circa 1982, this reference 5513 features the sought-after Maxi MK IV dial, distinguished by its oversized luminous hour markers and the angular “S” in the Submariner signature.
The matte black surface provides a beautiful backdrop to the warm ivory tone of the hour markers, complemented by the aged luminous material in the Mercedes hands. The simple two-line layout, free from a date aperture, gives the dial the balance and clarity that make the 5513 such an enduring favourite among collectors.
The 40 mm stainless steel Oyster case, rotating black bezel and domed acrylic crystal complete its distinctive profile. Fitted with a stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet and powered by the automatic calibre 1520, it retains the purposeful appeal of a mechanical diving instrument from an earlier era.
The Maxi dials represent the final chapter of matte-dial production for the reference 5513, before the introduction of glossy dials with white gold surrounds. Their bold luminous plots and understated finish capture much of what makes vintage Submariners so appealing: excellent proportions, practical design and character that develops with age.
