About this watch
An exceptionally rare stainless steel Vacheron Constantin Calatrava from the late 1950s to early 1960s, featuring a beautiful 35mm Spillmann-made case with a screw-down caseback.
The reference 6562 was produced with and without a date display. This particular example is the much rarer no-date version, featuring a beautifully balanced silver dial with applied hour markers and elegant, faceted dauphine hands. In my opinion, this distinctive dial and hand configuration makes it one of the most attractive and desirable versions of the reference.
Inside beats the magnificent automatic calibre K1071, based on a Jaeger-LeCoultre movement. Bearing the prestigious Geneva Seal, this exceptionally well-finished movement is a wonderful example of Vacheron Constantin’s watchmaking during its golden era.
What makes this watch even more special is its extremely rare, period-correct Gay Frères stainless steel bracelet, featuring distinctive ribbed links and an unusual adjustable clasp. In over 25 years of dealing in vintage watches, I have never encountered another example of this particular Gay Frères bracelet.
